About The Plan
The Long-range Framework Plan will be the blueprint for the future of Clemson’s campus. The plan will be developed through a process of listening, data exploration, and stakeholder discussions and crafted to support the three pillars of Clemson Elevate; Deliver the No. 1 Student Experience, Double Research by 2035, and Transform Lives Statewide and Beyond.
Long-range Framework Plan
A Long-range Framework Plan is an effective way of realigning the university’s future development on campus with the goals of Clemson Elevate. It provides a detailed framework for growth, innovation, and change while simultaneously preserving the heritage of open space and natural beauty we value so highly.
This is an opportunity for Clemson to leverage what’s working well, re-examine those aspects of campus not working well, and prioritize goals. This project will primarily guide physical development of the university's main campus while also considering strategic opportunities for growth at Clemson’s innovation campuses. The plan will provide short and long-term objectives over a multi-year timeline and serve as an extension of the Strategic Plan through a commitment to student success, excellence, community engagement, and lifelong learning.

Why Is This Important?
The Educational Landscape is Changing. The last campus plan needs to be updated to ensure that the plan recommendations are current with the academic, research, and student life needs at Clemson. The plan will articulate concepts that make the University distinctive and meaningful to the community and beyond. We will look at topics such as buildings, streets, parking, walkways, open spaces, learning environments, research spaces and many other physical campus elements during this process. We will work together to create a campus for the next generation of students, faculty, and staff.

THE Process
Each phase builds upon the previous one to generate ideas and deepen an understanding of the issues and opportunities that will inform the campus planning effort.
Understand
The first step of the planning process is to develop a deep understanding of campus today and the challenges and opportunities for development. This understanding will be gained through a deep dive into existing conditions data and the collection of feedback from the campus community. The understand phase will explore systems such as open space, mobility, and campus organization to develop a picture of where opportunities for change exist. Beyond Main Campus, the plan will examine connectivity with the broader community, region, and state.
Explore
The Explore phase will build upon the understanding of opportunities and challenges through the exploration of development scenarios and design solutions. In this phase we will test different ways to organize uses on campus, update and possibly expand facilities, enhance systems, and enliven spaces.
Realize
The final phase of the planning process is the development of a framework that will guide the development of campus for years to come. The plan will include strategic projects and initiatives that will improve the campus experience and support future growth. These projects will include new development, design strategies, and the targeted renovation and reuse of buildings. The framework plan will be a living document that will showcase these projects and their implementation status on a publicly accessible online portal.
THE Schedule
The Understand Phase

The Understand Phase includes Campus Visit #1 in March, which will kick off the Discovery process, followed by interpretation of findings.
Findings and Analysis are then presented at Campus Visit #2 in May.
Findings and Analysis are then presented at Campus Visit #2 in May.
The Explore Phase
Summer and Fall 2024 / June - December 2024
The Explore Phase includes development of the preliminary plan. Campus Visit #3 in September will include review of the preliminary plan, and work on that plan culminates in Campus Visit #4 around November, when the Preliminary Plan is presented to the campus community.
The Realize Phase
Spring Semester 2025 / December 2024 - May 2025
The Realize Phase includes development of the Long-Range Campus Development Plan. The Final Plan is presented at Campus Visit #5 in February 2025, with the final report delivered to UC around the end of April 2025.
